Abstract

Introduction: NSAIDs are used to treat low and moderate pain. They relieve pain, reduce inflammation that frequently comes with it, and worsen it. NSAIDs without prescription include over-the-counter analgesics such as aspirin, ibuprofen, keto- profen, and others. They are reasonably safe when used as prescribed. This re- search aimed to identify the NSAIDs consumed by medical students from the first to fourth semester of the FCM - UNA.

Materials: The study was observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional, based on a Google Forms survey of 84 students from the first to fourth semester.

Results: Most respondents were females; the age range was between 21 and 23, and most were in the second semester. The frequency of use was only when fee- ling poorly, and 90,5% of the respondents consumed AINEs without a medical prescription, with the principal cause of use being headaches with 72,6%. Los medicamentos AINEs más consumidos fueron el Ibuprofeno (94%) y la Aspirina (29,8%).

Conclusions: The study obtained information about the population, the frequency, and reasons for the consumption of NSAIDs. It established which pharmaceuticals are consumed more by medicine students at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of UNA.
